Anthony Hopkins stars in a film that can best be summed up as - sounds good, but is actually a big pile of crap. An arse clenchingly clichéd cookie cut hollywood tale of... nope... I have forgotten it.. something to do with monkeys. ARRRGGH... rubbish.

The Straight Story (1999)

The Straight Story is a David Lynch film. Having watched "Lost Highway" which frankly left me a quivering, nervous and confused wreck, I didn't quite know what to expect from this movie. Basically - it's about a bloke who rides his lawn mower to see his estranged brother hundreds of miles away. Nothing much to it really, David Lynch "fans" must have been a little disappointed having watched this movie and missing out of valuable self-harm time - or what ever those people do for fun. There is no doubt that David Lynch is a creative genius, but it is nice to see him do something a little more Human for a change. Basically a very very very slow road movie that is truely lovely. There you go... lovely. The tag for this post because frankly it is... lovely. What a lovely film. Hmmm.. Watch it, but keep the kleenex close by (it is sad) and don't watch it with your girlfriend unless you want to display your long buried emotional side. Also I did spend most of the film saying - "Sissy Spacek, the girl out of Carrie.. wow... she has changed". Watch it.

P.s. If you have ANY doubts about the surreal nature of David Lynch's work, just take a look at this classic PS2 advert produced and directed by Mr Lynch. Quite a contrast from The Straight Story. If there is a hell, David Lynch is the set designer.
